Bio-imaging: late gadolinium enhancement in dilated cardiomyopathy and its relation to novel biomarkers of fibrosis and remodeling

چکیده
Background Focal myocardial fibrosis is frequently observed in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and predicts future major adverse cardiovascular events and patient outcome. However, the pathogenesis of fibrosis in DCM remains poorly understood. Novel serum biomarkers of fibrosis such as Endoglin have been recently identified as a trigger of myocardial fibrosis in heart failure. Accordingly, we sought to investigate the relationship between myocardial tissue fibrosis as identified by noninvasive late gadolinium contrast enhancement (LGE) CMR and serum biomarkers of fibrosis/ remodeling in a cohort of DCM patients.

Myocardial fibrosis delineation in late gadolinium enhancement images of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy patients using deep learning methods
Introduction: Accurate delineation of myocardial fibrosis in Late Gadolinium Enhancement on Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (LGE-CMR) has a crucial role in the assessment and risk stratification of HCM patients. As this is time-consuming and requires expertise, automation can be essential in accelerating this process. This study aims to use Unet-based deep learning methods to automate the mentioned ...
متن کاملBio-imaging: late gadolinium enhancement in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and its relation to novel biomarkers of fibrosis
Background Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) accurately detects myocardial fibrosis in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), which has been recently shown to be an independent risk factor for cardiac events in this setting. Endoglin is an accessory protein for the TGF-b receptor, which stimulates myocardial fibrosis through modulating the response to Angiotensin II. We sought to explore the relati...
متن کاملRE: Relation of Late Gadolinium Enhancement to Increased Ventricular Wall Stress in Dilated Cardiomyopathy
With great interest, we read the study by Yoon et al. (1) confirming the previously reported relationship between late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) and increased left ventricular (LV) wall stress (2). Assessment of postcontrast T1 values by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) using look-locker sequences is related to myocardial tissue characteristics of LV remodeling, LV compliance and inc...
متن کاملMyocardial fibrosis imaging based on T1-mapping and extracellular volume fraction (ECV) measurement in muscular dystrophy patients: proof of additional diagnostic value compared to conventional late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) imaging
Background Cardiac involvement with progressive myocardial fibrosis leading to dilated cardiomyopathy is a major cause of death in muscular dystrophy patients. Extracellular volume fraction (ECV) measurement based on T1-mapping preand post-contrast promises the detection of early “diffuse” myocardial fibrosis that cannot be depicted by conventional contrast-imaging based on late gadolinium enha...
متن کاملComparison of Semi-automated Late Gadolinium Enhancement Quantification Techniques in Measuring Septal Fibrosis in Patients with Dilated Non-Ischemic Cardiomyopathy
Background Mid-wall striae pattern late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) has been shown to independently predict future outcomes in patients with dilated non-ischemic cardiomyopathy (NICM). Standardized quantification tools are of particular interest for clinical translation of this novel imaging marker. However, signal intensity (SI) based threshold techniques, such as Signal Threshold versus Refe...
